The Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Center revealed an annual increase in consumer price inflation rates, last September, by 1.2%, the second rise in inflation, for the second month in a row, after a 31-month decline.

The center explained in the “Inflation September 2021” report, which was issued yesterday, that the increase in annual inflation came as a result of the rise in the prices of eight main commodity and service groups, which constitute 63.3% of total consumer spending, which are the groups: “transportation,” “education,” “recreation and culture.” Home appliances, foodstuffs, health care, hotels and restaurants, and tobacco.

The inflation rate achieved its first rise on an annual basis during August 2021, recording a rise of 0.5%.

The center stated in the report that the general index rose to 107.2 points in September 2021, compared to 105.9 points in September 2020.

The Center’s report indicated an increase in the prices of the “transportation group” which constitutes 14.6% of consumer spending by 12.7%, and the prices of the “recreation and culture group” which constitute 3.2% of consumer spending by 15.4%, and the prices of the “education group” which constitute 7.7% of the consumer spending. Consumer spending by 1.1%.

In turn, the prices of the “household equipment group” that constitute 5.6% of spending by 2.2%, the prices of the “tobacco group” that constitute 0.3% of spending by 0.3%, and the prices of the “food group” that constitute 14.3% of spending by 0.3%, In addition to the increase in the prices of the “health care group” which constitutes 1.4% of spending by 0.3%, and the “hotels and restaurants group” which constitutes 4% of spending by 1%.

At the same time, the prices of four commodity and service groups decreased on an annual basis at varying rates, namely the “housing, water, electricity and gas group” which decreased by 3.7%, the “clothing, textile and footwear group” by 1.7%, and the “communication group” by 0.1%, and “Miscellaneous Goods Group” with a rate of 0.7%.

In addition, the inflation rate on a monthly basis increased by 0.1% during last September, compared to the previous August.

The report indicated that all emirates of the country recorded slight increases in the rate of inflation, ranging between 0.1 and 0.2%, except for the Emirate of Dubai, which recorded a decrease in monthly inflation by 0.04%.
