Amazon announced Wednesday that it will no longer accept payments by Visa credit cards issued in the United Kingdom as of January 19, 2022. The Internet giant points to the "high fees" charged by the American services company of payment.

"These fees should drop over time, as technologies advance, but costs remain high, or even increase," Amazon said in a statement, adding that it wants to "continue to innovate (...) to add and promote payment options faster, cheaper and more inclusive ”.

The Visa company says it is "very disappointed"

In an email sent to its customers, Amazon specifies that Visa debit cards or credit cards provided by other companies "like Mastercard, Amex and Eurocard" could still be used.

For its part, the Visa company said it was "very disappointed" with Amazon's decision.

"When consumer choice is limited, no one wins," responded the US company in a statement.

"We continue to work" to resolve the problem, so that Visa cardholders can continue to "use their cards on Amazon in the UK without restrictions in January 2022," Visa added.
