China News Service, Beijing, November 16 (Reporter Wang Enbo) Zhou Dadi, academic adviser of the China Energy Research Society and former director of the Energy Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission, said that China With great potential for low-carbon transition, the peak of carbon requires zero-carbon electricity first.

In the context of the "dual carbon" target, China's power system is facing transformation.

But in this process, overcoming the inertia brought about by its huge volume has become a major challenge.

Zhou Da said that in the past 30 years, China's power system has maintained rapid growth, and currently ranks among the world in terms of power installation, total power generation, power transmission system construction and scale, as well as conventional power generation technology, grid operation technology and reliability. Forefront.

It can face a huge transformation. To transform from this large-scale centralized power system based on fossil fuels to a zero-carbon power system, many of the advantages of the past have also become a kind of resistance to some extent.

But he also pointed out that the positive aspect is that China is now in an internationally advanced position in terms of nuclear power, hydropower, new energy power generation technology and installed capacity, and new energy consumption.

In particular, renewable energy technologies such as photovoltaics and energy storage batteries have been at the forefront of the world, and it can be said that they are leading the development of new energy.

At the same time, due to the rapid technological progress and large-scale manufacturing capabilities of photovoltaic, wind power, and energy storage systems, China has great potential for low-carbon transformation.

For example, Zhou Dadi said that the cost of wind and solar power generation in China has fallen sharply in the past ten years. Among them, the cost of wind power has dropped by about 30% to 40%, and the cost of solar power has dropped by 50% to 80%, and there is still room for further decline.

As an important energy storage technology, battery energy storage technologies such as lithium-ion are also advancing very fast.

The cost of lithium battery is more than 7,700 yuan per kilowatt-hour (RMB, the same below) ten years ago, and has now dropped to 680 yuan; the cost of energy storage per kilowatt-hour is also expected to drop from the current 6 cents to about 2 cents within 5 years, all of which are low The carbon transition has created good basic conditions.

"The peak of carbon requires zero-carbon electricity first." Zhou Dadi said that the country's installed power capacity is nearly 2.3 billion kilowatts, of which the installed capacity of renewable energy power generation accounts for more than 40%.

In the future, the carbon neutrality of the energy system requires the establishment of a new power system with zero-carbon power as the core. The power system must strive to achieve zero-carbon power between 2040 and 2045. Therefore, the next step must be to accelerate the development of non-fossil energy power.
