The Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail Al Mazrouei, said that future energy will not be cheap, and there must be transparency in telling consumers about this, in light of the high cost of switching to clean energy and reducing dependence on traditional fuels, noting that the UAE has set a goal within its strategic plan. Energy to reduce consumption by 40% by 2050, while it is currently seeking to be a pioneer in the hydrogen industry.

A pivotal role

Al Mazrouei added in a panel discussion held yesterday, on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC 2021), that hydrogen will play a pivotal role in the energy of the future, in light of the global industry’s transformation into it, pointing out that “although the market is still small, we We are all discussing how to expand hydrogen projects.”

Challenges

Al Mazrouei explained that there are several challenges facing the use of hydrogen as a source of energy, including the cost of the high technology used in it, which is five times more than conventional fuel, in addition to the cost of transportation, transportation and storage on the ground.

He stressed that the road is still long, and it needs to develop incentive plans and provide technology at a cheap price, noting that the UAE has signed a number of agreements with several countries, to develop a road map to expand the use of technology in the production of energy from hydrogen.

Experiment

Al Mazrouei added, "It is unfair to request the use of the most expensive types of energy from some countries whose residents do not have the minimum level of energy security, which requires everyone to unite in order to transfer expertise and provide investments, especially in poor areas of the world."

And he indicated that the UAE has experience in reducing the cost of solar energy production, which has succeeded in reducing it up to 70%, noting that "this means that cooperation is necessary with all parties, if we want a smooth transition towards clean energy."

He pointed out that "many countries need investments and financing for energy projects."

Honeywell: The pandemic has accelerated the shift to technology

Hisham Tashkandi, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Honeywell for Performance Materials and Technologies in the Middle East, said that the company is currently focusing on providing technologies that support the transition towards clean energy, especially blue hydrogen, as it works to provide predictive solutions and artificial intelligence applications in the stages of energy production. different.

He added that the "Corona" pandemic has accelerated the transformation of companies in relying on modern and advanced technology and techniques that serve the management of oil operations and renewable energy remotely.

And Tashkandi indicated that managing energy security as well, and reducing costs, have become a priority for all countries, pointing out that companies are currently working to support these huge transformations in the energy industry, which ultimately aim to find clean sustainable energy.

Hydrogen will play a pivotal role in the energy of the future, as the global industry turns to it.
