He is quadriplegic, she suffers from infantile spinal amyotrophy. They have both been in wheelchairs since their teenage years. They decided, whatever the obstacles, to live their dreams to the fullest. Amel, 41, and Rémi, 40, have set up innovative services for people with disabilities (PSH) "who want to be active and involved in their lives". Married in 2005, they met during their studies in Montpellier.
Driven by "the need to be an entrepreneur" and "passionate about sport", Rémi obtained a license in sports management, then a master's degree in law, economics and management.
An engineer in social engineering, Amel joined Rémi who created So'Lifes in 2012: "I had a taste for entrepreneurship and working together", underlines the one who is in charge of operations, while she takes care of The strategy.
"We are in the service to the person, to help and accompany the PWD with an active, professional, or student, or sports, or associative life, details Rémi.
What is put in place by the public authorities is home support, but nothing for people who want to pursue their life project outside.
"
Training for managers
According to the couple, more and more people with a severe handicap are studying for a long time, have positions of responsibility and a need for very specific support. Amel and Rémi train workers for individual needs, but also public authorities in reconversion, who support colleagues with disabilities and develop training for managers who will have to involve PWDs in their teams. For Rémi, they “created fluidities where there were barriers”.
Unique in France, the company now has 90 employees.
Present in Gard and Hérault, So'Lifes has projects with a Ile-de-France municipality and the Ministry of the Interior, and a subsidiary has just opened in Paris.
Amel took the opportunity to embark on a new adventure.
In 2019, she created My Ideal Coaching: "I address myself to project leaders of social and ecological innovation, with a specific feature for people with disabilities by offering them individualized support".
Based on their complementarity, Amel and Rémi thus work against the lack of representativeness of the 5.5 million disabled people in France, including 10 to 15% with a visible handicap.
