The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has announced an action plan to revive the semiconductor industry with the aim of strengthening economic security and international competitiveness.

In addition to attracting cutting-edge semiconductor factories, it also includes financial support for the renovation of existing aging factories.

The action plan was presented at a meeting held at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry on the 15th to review strategies for the semiconductor and digital industries.

At the conference, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Hagiuda said, "The key to the growth of After Corona is the activation of a wide range of digital investment throughout the country."

The action plan shows what Japan should do to revive the semiconductor industry in three stages.

In the first stage, we will support the cost of attracting factories for advanced semiconductors used in fields such as autonomous driving and data centers over multiple years.

With the attraction of Taiwan's semiconductor giant TSMC in mind, the reason is that it is important for securing advanced semiconductors in Japan, strengthening the industrial base, and for economic security.

It will also support the cost of renovating the facilities of an existing semiconductor factory in Japan that has deteriorated.

Semiconductors such as microcomputers used in a wide range of fields such as home appliances and medical equipment are not so expensive technically, but if the supply is insufficient, the government will start financial support because it will have a great impact on people's lives.

In addition, as the second and third stages, we will work on research and development of next-generation semiconductor technology in collaboration with the United States and other countries.
