The sedan of the young electric brand of Volvo had indeed debuted in a version with two engines developing together 400 hp, and with a large battery of 78 kWh promising 450 to 480 km of autonomy.

A nice package, billed at nearly € 54,000 base in most European countries, and to which it was good to add the Performance Pack at € 6,000 to make the most of its services.

A nice sum.

Today, Polestar is therefore broadening its offer "downwards", with more reasonable versions, but which potentially go further.

Single Motor

These Single Motor versions have in common that they only receive, as their name suggests, a single motor, at the front. However, this engine varies in power depending on the battery associated with it: 224 hp with the new small 64 kWh battery (420-440 km WLTP), 231 hp with the large battery mentioned above, which here offers the greatest range. of the range, with 515 to 540 km WLTP. The argument of these versions is to stay below the € 50,000 mark. Precisely € 45,900 for the first, € 49,900 for the second. Be careful, however, because Polestar has also cut back a bit on the standard endowment. As such we can regret, especially from a "daughter" of Volvo, that the latest safety equipment is optional. However, we still have that feeling of high quality on board and the Polestar "basic "is nonetheless premium.

On the road, we are dealing with a wagon still far from being placid despite its reduced power, but above all displays smoother operation and better overall comfort.

Besides, even if the engineers did a great job on the chassis, sportiness is not what best defines a 2-ton car.

So you might as well drive at ease and enjoy the comfort.

The question is: does the Polestar 2 Single Motor have enough to dethrone the Tesla 3?

We doubt it.

But it risks complicating the task of other American hunters, such as VW, Skoda, BMW, Kia and Hyundai.
