Due to the influence of the new coronavirus, the vacancy rate of offices is increasing in central Tokyo while telework is becoming widespread.

The vacancy rate in October was more than 6%, rising for 20 consecutive months compared to the previous month.

According to Miki Shoji, a major office brokerage company, the vacancy rate of office buildings in five wards of central Tokyo, such as Chiyoda Ward and Minato Ward, is the total of about 2,600 buildings surveyed, with an average of 6.47% last month. It increased by 0.04 points from the month.



The rise has been for 20 consecutive months since March last year.



With the spread of telework due to the influence of the new corona, there is a growing movement among companies to relocate offices and reduce the area.



Under these circumstances, office rents have also fallen, with an average of 20,804 yen per tsubo last month, down more than 7% from the same month of the previous year.



Rents have fallen for 15 consecutive months.
