It was confirmed as a result of SBS coverage that KT's 5G service was suspended for three days in some areas. Users only had to be provided with LTE service, and KT did not properly inform them. In the case that the national backbone network fails to provide the promised service, the competent ministry is in the position that there is no problem.

<Reporter> For

three days from the 16th to the 18th of last month, KT's 5G service was suspended in various parts of the country including Seoul, Gyeonggi, Busan, Gyeongnam, and Gangwon.

It was because of a problem with a part called a 'rectifier' installed in a 5G-only base station.

The base station stopped operating as the rectifier that stably supplies current to the base station stopped.

Rectifiers of the same type are installed in 7,000 KT base stations, and errors occurred in about 450 of them.

On the day of the accident, KT confirmed that the cold wave special was issued as the cause of the accident, and said that all of the rectifiers were replaced to prevent recurrence.

However, an industry network expert responds that it is difficult to convince, saying, "Base station equipment must undergo environmental testing to withstand cryogenic temperatures."

KT users in the stopped base station did not receive 5G service, but no one knew because it was automatically switched to LTE.

KT did not notify users of the suspension of 5G service.

According to the current law, if the telecommunication service is interrupted, the operator has the duty to notify.

Nevertheless, the Korea Communications Commission, the supervisory department, is of the view that "there was no 5G obstacle that prevented the provision of services to customers."

An official from the Korea Communications Commission explained, "Because the service was provided through LTE, it is necessary to review whether it should be regarded as a suspension."

However, it is pointed out that it is difficult to understand that the service interruption is covered in a situation where there is a lot of dissatisfaction with 5G, saying that the quality is so high that even if the service is interrupted.

[Kim Young-sik / People's Strength Rep.: To say that LTE communication is possible on behalf of 5G is not an obstacle shows KT's low level of awareness about communication quality and is an act of mocking consumers.]

Repeated KT accidents, internal complacency It is pointed out that this is the result of awareness and loose response from the management department.
