Three major flour milling companies have decided to raise the price of wheat flour for home use from the beginning of January next year due to the rise in the price of imported wheat.

Nisshin Foods Inc., Nippon Flour Mills Inc., and Showa Sangyo Co., Ltd., which are major flour millers, announced that they will raise the price of wheat flour for home use from the delivery on January 4, next year, by the 10th.



The price increases


are about 3% to 6% for Nisshin Foods,


about 1.5% to 9%

for Nippon, and


about 4% to 9% for Showa Sangyo.


Nisshin Foods and Nippon are the mainstays of soft flour and strong flour. The brand's over-the-counter selling price is expected to increase by about 15 yen per kilogram.



Most of the wheat consumed domestically is produced overseas and is imported in bulk by the government, but the price of imported wheat sold by the government due to unseasonable weather and rising transportation costs in North America, which is the main production area. However, the increase from last month is the main reason for the price increase.



In addition, each company plans to raise the price of pasta and udon noodles for home use from January to February next year.



The three companies have also decided to raise the price of commercial wheat flour from the delivery on the 20th of next month, and major bread makers are moving to review the prices of some breads and sweet buns.
