Kambiz Derambakhsh, arguably the most popular of Iranian cartoonists, died of complications from Covid-19 at the age of 79.

In 2014, he received the insignia of knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, during a ceremony at the French Embassy in Tehran.

A tall man with graying hair and a mustache and glasses, Kambiz Derambakhsh started making caricatures at the age of 14.

The characters in his drawings were faceless men, drawn with simple pencil lines.

He had explained that this fetish character was a bit like an actor who worked for him and that he was his film director.

His cartoons were published in many Iranian newspapers, but also abroad.

He has exhibited his works in around fifty exhibitions in Iran and abroad, notably in France, Germany, Japan and Turkey.

A job praised by many personalities

He had left Iran at the time of the 1979 revolution to live in Germany, but he preferred to return to his native country in 2002. He then said that the quality of his work was better, as was the reception from the public. .

The Ministry of Culture praised his work.

Many personalities from the world of arts and cinema have praised his work and his simple and kind character.

In recent months, several well-known Iranian artists have died from Covid-19, which has sparked criticism, especially over

the government's delay in

importing vaccines.
