Choi Jong-hoon (31), a former FT Islander who was convicted and arrested on charges of gang rape, will be released from prison today (8th).

Choi Jong-hoon was finally sentenced to two years and six months in prison for violating the Act on Special Cases concerning the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (special rape) in May 2019.

In addition, even after being released from prison, Choi Jong-hoon must complete the sexual assault treatment program for 80 hours and is restricted from employment for 3 years.

Choi Jong-hoon, along with singer Jung Jun-young, former Burning Sun MD Kim, office worker Kwon, and former entertainment agency employee Huh, gang-raped and illegally assaulted a drunken woman in January 2016 in Hongcheon, Gangwon-do, and in Daegu in March of the same year. He was convicted of filming.

This is the so-called 'Jung Joon-young group chat room incident'.

At the time, the court of first instance sentenced Choi Jong-hoon to 5 years in prison and Jeong Jun-young to 6 years in prison, saying, "The defendants are not very old, but the crime is too serious and serious to say that it was a prank out of curiosity."

The appeals court also admitted all charges, but in the case of Choi Jong-hoon, the sentence was reduced to two years and six months in consideration of the fact that he had reached an agreement with the victim, and the sentence was reduced to five years considering that Jung Joon-young is deeply reflecting.

After that, both the defendant and the prosecution appealed, but in September of the same year, the Supreme Court dismissed both the appeals of the defendant and the prosecution and confirmed the sentence of the appeals court.

Meanwhile, Jung Joon-young, who was handed over to trial on the same charges, was accused of distributing illegally filmed footage on several occasions, including sharing illegally filmed videos in chat rooms in late 2015, revealing that he had sex with women in a Kakao Talk chat room where celebrities participated.

Jung Joon-young was detained on March 21, 2019 and is expected to be released on October 1, 2025.
