Why did vegetable prices start to drop rapidly?

Regarding the previous increase in vegetable prices, Tang Ke, director of the Department of Market and Information Technology of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, said on the 4th that there are four main reasons: first, the severe weather has reduced the number of listings; second, the increase in the price of agricultural materials Third, the transportation and distribution costs have increased significantly; fourth, the lack of power supply in some major northern provinces that produce vegetables with facilities has affected the intensive seedling and factory production of vegetables.

In addition, the sporadic outbreak of new crown pneumonia in some areas has also increased the difficulty of the connection between production and sales.

“However, since mid-to-late October, the northern area has been sunny and good weather, vegetable production has basically returned to normal, and the number of harvested markets will continue to increase,” Tang Ke said. Therefore, the overall increase in vegetable prices across the country has narrowed recently. The prices of green leafy vegetables such as lettuce began to drop significantly.

In addition, the start of the supply and price stabilization work such as the release of reserve vegetables in many places is also a major factor in the decline of vegetable prices.

According to the National Development and Reform Commission, with the implementation of measures to ensure supply and price stabilization in various regions, the wholesale and retail prices of vegetables have fallen. Among them, the prices of fresh and tender vegetables, which have increased significantly in the previous period, have dropped significantly.

Although vegetable prices have fallen overall, not all vegetable prices have fallen.

Liu Tong, head of the market statistics department of Beijing Xinfadi, pointed out to a reporter from Chinanews.com, “Only

vegetables such as spinach and pakchoi, which have a short growth cycle and recover relatively quickly, have seen a significant drop in prices. The prices of sharp peppers and bell peppers are still high.

."

In addition, a reporter from Chinanews.com noticed that the prices of winter vegetables such as potatoes and Chinese cabbage have risen recently.

In a supermarket in Beijing, the price of Chinese cabbage has risen by about 1 yuan compared with that in late October

.

"The price of Chinese cabbage has risen because the cabbage in the field was chopped and then stored in the cellar. The cabbage entering the market is not particularly sufficient, so the price is relatively strong. This is also the reason for potatoes-they are being stored in storage." Liu Tong explained .

Will the price of vegetables continue to fall in the later period?

"From the perspective of production, the output of autumn vegetables is reduced. Winter vegetables are affected by adverse weather when they are planted, and the market period is also delayed. Therefore, the current supply of vegetables is still tight." Liu Tong analyzed that the production of vegetables in the whole winter and spring may be possible. It will show a tight front and a loose state.

"But taking Beijing as an example, it has now entered a period of seasonal increases in vegetables, and coupled with the tight supply situation, under the combined forces of the two, the

overall short-term vegetable prices will remain high. As the supply situation improves, it may be There has been some downturn, but it will take some time to come true.

" Liu Tong said.

Although the price of vegetables will still be high in the short term, Tang Ke said that from the perspective of the whole year, it is estimated that the national vegetable area is 320 million mu and the output is 750 million tons, an increase of about 1% over the previous year.

From the current point of view, the vegetable area on the field has reached 103 million mu, an increase of 4 million mu year-on-year. It

is expected that in the next three months, around the "two festivals", the vegetable supply will reach 200 million tons, an increase of 7 million tons.

In other words, it can provide 3 catties of vegetables per person per day

.
