Last month, the number of new cars sold in Japan reached more than 270,000, the lowest ever in October since 1968, when statistics began to be collected.

The spread of the new coronavirus infection in Southeast Asia had an impact on the delay in parts supply.

According to the announcement by the Japan Automobile Dealers Association and others, the number of new cars sold in Japan last month decreased by more than 31% from the same month last year to 279,341 units.

This is the lowest sales volume ever for October since 1968, when statistics were first collected.

The reason for this is that automobile manufacturers have significantly reduced production due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection in Southeast Asia, where many parts manufacturers have many production bases, and the delay in parts supply.

On the other hand, each company says that demand for new cars is strong.

Some models take about half a year from ordering to delivery, and even if the manufacturer wants to supply a new car, the situation continues.

An industry group said, "We cannot read how long the impact on new car sales will continue. The situation is very complicated and we cannot make a forecast."
