"Age + height", railway child ticket division will bid farewell to "single standard"

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, November 1 (Reporter Fan Xi) The National Railway Administration recently released the "Regulations for Railway Passenger Transport (Draft for Comment)."

According to the draft, the standard for purchasing railway children's tickets is expected to usher in a major change, from the previous determination of height alone to a new standard of "age + height" dual determination.

The draft for comments proposes that in the implementation of the real-name ticket system, children over 6 years old and under 14 years old can purchase child discount tickets; children over 14 years old should purchase full-price tickets.

If the real-name ticket system is not implemented, children with a height of 1.2 meters and less than 1.5 meters can purchase a child discount ticket; children with a height of 1.5 meters should purchase a full-price ticket.

For a long time, the classification of railway children's tickets has been based on the height standard.

The reporter logged on the railway 12306 website and found that the ticket purchase reminder for children's tickets was "Children with a height of 1.2 meters to 1.5 meters traveling with an adult should buy a child ticket. If they exceed 1.5 meters, they should buy a full price ticket."

However, with the development of the economy and society, it is becoming more common for children to be extremely tall, and it is difficult to effectively ensure that child passengers enjoy travel discounts simply by using height as the standard for discounted tickets for children.

Prior to this, the Ministry of Transport has implemented a fare preferential treatment system that takes into account age and height standards in the field of highway and waterway passenger transportation.

According to the "Opinions on Deepening the Reform of Road Transport Prices" issued by the Ministry of Transport in recent years and the "Notice on Doing a Good Job in the Implementation of the Regulations on the Administration of Domestic Waterway Transport", the scope of exempt children is under 6 years of age (inclusive) or height 1.2 Meters (inclusive) or less; half-price tickets for children are eligible for children 6 to 14 years old or 1.2 to 1.5 meters in height. It is clear that on the basis of children's height standards, the age-based children's tickets and free tickets will be added.
