Iraq: the worrying rise of inter-tribal violence in Diyala province

The Iraqi prime minister on Thursday sent a delegation as well as anti-terrorist forces to the east of the country.

Concern is increasing day by day in the face of the rise in intertribal violence visibly orchestrated by the Islamic State organization.

Diyala is a particularly strategic area for the terrorist group.

On Tuesday, fighters from the Islamic State organization launched an attack on a village in Diyala province.

A Shiite village inhabited by many members of the security forces.

Assessment 15 dead and around 30 injured.

On Wednesday, according to security forces, 3,000 fighters from the victim tribe surrounded the neighboring Sunni village accused of collaborating with terrorists.

Balance sheet 11 dead dozens of injured, hundreds of displaced as well as houses and gardens bulldozed.

Today the authorities fear that the targeted Sunni tribes will in turn organize acts of revenge in a particularly sensitive area.

Diyala is frequently the scene of intertribal struggles.

A chaos that systematically benefits the Islamic State organization.

The inhabitants of the region also claim that the terrorist group would have settled in Sunni villages whose families were driven out by Shiite militias during the war.

The area is particularly strategic for the Islamic State organization because it opens access to the central Iraqi desert which crosses the country to Syria.

10,000 jihadists are still active between the two countries.
