The G20 finance and health ministers have set a specific goal to ensure that 70% of the world's population receive a vaccine against the new coronavirus by the middle of next year.

At a joint meeting of finance and health ministers held on the 29th, one day before the opening of the G20 summit, they shared the view to provide a vaccine to 40% of the world's population by the end of this year and 70% by the middle of next year, Reuters and others reported.

The original target for vaccination of 70% of the world's population was set for next fall, but this has been advanced in line with the World Health Organization target.

The G20 finance and health ministers also agreed to increase the supply of vaccines and essential medical supplies to help developing countries overcome the pandemic crisis, while also setting up a 'task force' to prevent another global virus pandemic in the future.

The task force will play a role in promoting international consultation and cooperation related to pandemic prevention, assessing health crises, and coordinating joint responses in the event of a pandemic.

This agreement will be included in a joint statement after coordination at the G20 summit on the 30th and 31st.

However, some raise concerns that it may be just a 'fantastic goal', saying that it lacks concrete action plans to achieve the vaccination goal.
