After a huge air gap in 2020 due to the health crisis, and the crash in the aviation sector, Airbus is finding its colors.

This Thursday, during the publication of its results and financial forecasts, the European aircraft manufacturer posted a net profit of 404 million euros in the third quarter, symbolic of the gradual resumption of its activities.

While it had recorded a net loss of 767 million euros a year earlier, since January it has delivered 424 planes since the start of the year, against 341 over the same period of 2020. Airbus plans to reach at the end of the year the figure of 600 deliveries, against 566 last year.

However, due to a catch-up effect from last year, and fewer deliveries in the third quarter, its turnover fell by 6% to 10.518 billion euros.

At the end of September, its net profit still stood at 2.6 billion euros, with sales up 17%.

He now expects an adjusted operating profit of 4.5 billion euros this year, against 4 billion envisaged so far.

Tensions in supply

For Guillaume Faury, its executive chairman, this reflects "a good performance of the entire company as well as the attention paid to cost reduction and competitiveness".

In the first 9m results, #TeamAirbus delivered strong performance.

With our partners, we are focused on securing the ramp up as well as the right industrial and supply chain capabilities to get us to higher rates.

Our focus on cash will allow us to invest in our future ambitions.

The aircraft manufacturer, which has revived the increase in its production rates, in particular of its best-seller the A320, remains attentive to the capacities of its suppliers to follow.

“We all see the tensions in the supply chain (…), the difficulties of coming out of a kind of 15-month hibernation and moving forward in a world where many products of base and many sectors are resuming their activity, ”Guillaume Faury explained on Thursday.

At the end of September, Airbus posted an order book of 6,894 aircraft, including 5,657 of the A320 family, ensuring many years of production.
