Samsung Electronics closed the third quarter with a net profit of 12.3 trillion won, or more than 9 billion euros.

It was in particular the chip division that gave the company the wind in its sails.

Profits of that branch increased by 82 percent in the quarter compared to the same period a year earlier.

In the end, the chip division was good for 10.1 trillion won.

Partly as a result, Samsung Electronics' profits rose 31 percent in the third quarter to 12.3 trillion won.

That is also the largest quarterly profit in three years.

The South Korean company is the largest maker of memory chips in the world.

Sales reached 75 trillion won, a new record for Samsung Electronics.

The consumer electronics division, known for its Samsung televisions, among other things, had a much harder time due to the increased prices of raw materials and semi-finished products.

As a result, earnings were lower in the past quarter, despite higher sales.
