While the factory has been idling for many weeks due to the shortage of spare parts linked to the Covid-19 pandemic, this is news that should delight the workers of the Stellantis site (ex-PSA) in Rennes.

During a meeting of the company's social and economic committee (CSE) on Tuesday morning, the management of the Janais plant announced that the site would produce the new generation of the Citroën C5 Aircross, including its electric version. .

Under the code name CR3, this new compact SUV type vehicle will be available in three models with a thermal version, an electric and a hybrid.

We do not yet know the launch date of this new vehicle, but we are talking internally about 2024 or 2025. According to the CFDT, "the planned investments will be 152 million euros".

"A fair return which allows to give visibility", according to the CFDT

Currently operating with a single team, against four before the coronavirus pandemic, the Janais plant produces the Citroën C5 Aircross and shares the production of the Peugeot 5008 with the Sochaux (Doubs) site.

Expected by the unions, the announcement of a new vehicle for the Rennes plant is "good news for employment", according to Laurent Valy, secretary of the CSE of the Janais plant and CFDT delegate.

"The efforts required of employees, particularly in terms of flexibility, have been very important in recent years, it is a fair return that allows to give industrial visibility for the period 2025-2030", indicates the trade unionist, who also hopes for a additional production for the Rennes plant.

"The site should not end up in a single product because the risks are increased in the event of commercial failure", he believes.
