70% of French people use cash every day according to an Ipsos survey for the Monnaie de Paris.

A more secure method of payment, a vector of social link too, according to this survey.

But if the French always have change in their pocket, the bank card is never far away.

Cash or credit card?

According to an Ipsos survey for the Monnaie de Paris, 70% of French people use cash every day, for the baguette or parking ticket for example.

The bank card is still more popular.

It is the big winner of the pandemic, in particular thanks to the contactless payment which allows the respect of the barrier gestures.

Its ceiling was also increased last year.

40% of French people use less cash since the Covid

According to the Banque de France, nearly 40% of French people have reduced their use of cash during the health crisis.

Result last year, contactless represented 4.6 billion transactions, against 3.4 the previous year.

In total, the Groupement des Cartes Bancaires explains that card payments account for 66% of household current consumption expenditure, i.e. 5 points more than in 2019.

In addition, new financial uses have emerged: electronic wallets such as PayPal, Paylib, Google Pay or even Lydia, which has almost doubled its number of users since the start of the health crisis.
