Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, said that the total number of smart meters installed in Dubai, so far, has exceeded 1.9 million smart meters, as part of the transformation plans for smart systems.

He added, in statements to "Emirates Today", that the smart meters project is one of the initiatives that support digital transformation in the authority's activities, and brings many benefits to customers, as it allows them to monitor, manage and control their consumption proactively, and obtain instant notifications that contribute to rationalizing consumption. And monitor any consumption operations in large quantities or water leaks, pointing out that the authority carries out the reading and monitoring of remote meters periodically and in real time.

He explained that the transformation rates for smart systems in the authority currently reach 100%, in light of the smart initiatives that it has implemented, and the use of systems supported by artificial intelligence, in addition to digital services in many fields.

Al Tayer revealed that the total number of “Green Charger” stations that provide power for electric vehicles in various parts of Dubai currently exceeds 300, indicating that the expansion of establishing new stations depends on the extent of need, and the entry of new electric cars into the market, as the current stations meet the cars Electric registered in Dubai.

Al Tayer considered the car agencies’ tendency to offer more diverse versions in specifications and prices for electric cars, which supports their availability in the market, and motivates many dealers to buy them, pointing out that the total green cars registered in Dubai recently, according to the observed data, exceeds 8000 vehicles.

Al Tayer stressed that the authority keeps abreast of the latest developments and trends in renewable energy, and has plans to study about “green hydrogen” stations, and how to benefit from them in various sectors, whether in terms of energy or transportation.

He stated that the total energy investments in Dubai during the next five years are estimated at 86 billion dirhams, of which 47% are green renewable energy projects.
