Koichi Miyata joined Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation in 1976, and after working as managing director of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, became president of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, a holding company, in 2011.

After that, he promoted business expansion overseas and was the chairman of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation from 2017, but Mr. Miyata died of pancreatic cancer on the afternoon of the 24th.
