Today (25th) around 11 am, KT announced that it had figured out that there was a DDoS attack about KT's wired and wireless Internet failures across the country.
A KT spokesperson said, "We found out that there was a large-scale DDoS attack on our network around 11 am."
On this day, reports of damage poured out to SBS that there was a situation where KT's wired Internet, wireless communication, and Internet telephony were interrupted, centered on the metropolitan area.
In particular, there was confusion because it was difficult to pay by credit card at restaurants using the KT communication network due to overlapping problems during lunchtime.
Jeongmo, a 30-year-old office worker who visited a restaurant in Yeouido, said, "There was a phenomenon in which people flocked to withdraw cash from nearby ATMs because card payments were blocked."
Another informant was frustrated, saying, "I suffered damage due to an error in accessing the mobile trading system for stocks."
A citizen who said he was using another telecommunication company complained of inconvenience, saying, "Game sites and delivery apps continued to work."
An informant living in Incheon confessed, "I made more than 100 calls to the KT customer center, but there was no connection."
However, KT understands that it is recovering sequentially from the situation that had been stale around noon.
DDoS is a denial of service (DDoS) using malicious code.
The Gyeonggi Nambu Office Cyber Investigation Team immediately started an internal investigation.
The police said, "We are reviewing necessary measures together with the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency, and we will check to see if there are any criminal charges."
