While the price of fuel has risen sharply in recent weeks, carpooling applications are registering a large number of new registrations from people wishing to save money.

And journeys between work and home are particularly popular.

REPORTING

In the face of rising prices, there are no small savings.

While fuel prices have exploded in recent weeks, more and more French people are turning to carpooling to reduce their costs.

The BlaBlaCar Daily application, leader in the sector, thus registers 40,000 new registrants each week, a record level similar to that at the time of the transport strike of 2019. And it is the home-work trips that have the coast, as noted by Europe 1 in Strasbourg.

Purchasing power, fuel prices ... The government fears a return of yellow vests

To go to work, Pauline makes the return trip Strasbourg-Haguenau every day, 50 kilometers which are dear to her at the end of the month.

"I think I'm about three fill-ups per month on diesel, so I am well over 150 euros," she explains at the microphone of Europe 1. So, with the rise in fuel prices, she 'is registered two days ago on a carpooling site.

"I see the prices of gasoline starting to increase ... And if I gain 20%, I would already be happy to fall back on a consumption that was budgeted at the start, when I projected myself on the work that I have. currently have. "

The number of registrants has jumped

Hélène has also been carpooling for a few years on the BlablacarDaily site.

And right now, it's particularly interesting.

"The gazoile is 1.45, and this morning, it was 51. On the full, we see it," she describes.

On his passenger seat, Bastien, who spends 5 euros per week in carpooling, quickly understood that it was much cheaper for him.

"I think I would spend twice as much as if I were driving alone. It would cost me double, 10 euros."

And many have apparently made the same calculation since the number of registered on BlaBlaCarDaily has multiplied by 5 in the last two months.
