Singapore Airlines will launch the shortest A380 flight ever, CNN reported on Tuesday (October 19th).

From November, the company will deploy the super-jumbo on 60-minute flights, connecting Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) to Singapore.

A spokesperson for Singapore Airlines said these flights were scheduled for "operational" reasons.

But according to Siva Govindasamy, head of global public affairs for the company, the return of the Airbus juggernaut is due to its "lasting appeal to passengers".

"Some people reserve the A380 specifically to fly on board," he told the American television station.

Half-hearted popularity

The super-jumbo could also be used on some round-trip flights between Singapore and London from mid-November, the Singaporean company said.

British Airways has also announced that some intra-European flights will be operated by the A380.

Many companies have withdrawn the A380 from their fleets like Air France or Lufthansa, recalls CNN.

The program was stopped by Airbus in 2020. The last A380 is expected to be delivered to Emirates, its main customer, in 2022.
