Due to the current Corona situation, Morocco is cutting air traffic with Germany, Great Britain and the Netherlands.

The measure will come into effect on Thursday night and apply “until further notice”, said the Moroccan airport authority (ONDA) on Wednesday.

All flights from the three European countries as well as all flight connections from Morocco to these countries are affected.

The rule should apply from 11:59 p.m. (local time, Thursday 00:59 a.m. CEST).

The national airline Royal Air Maroc said the decision was made due to the "development of the pandemic" in Germany, Great Britain and the Netherlands.

At the beginning of October, Morocco had already cut all flight connections with Russia for the same reason.

The number of infections in Germany and the Netherlands has been rising continuously for days.

The seven-day incidence in Germany increased from 65.4 to 80.4 within a week.

Tens of thousands of new infections are recorded in the UK every day.

Almost 50,000 new cases were recorded on Monday.

The British government also announced Tuesday that it was monitoring a new subspecies of the highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus.

But it is still unclear whether the new subspecies is spreading faster, it said.

In Morocco, however, the number of new infections and corona deaths is falling.

A vaccination campaign for the administration of a third vaccination dose is currently underway.

A health passport will also be introduced on Thursday to prove a vaccination, negative test or recovery from Covid-19.
