Mitsubishi Corporation, a major trading company, announced that it will invest 2 trillion yen by 2030 toward the realization of a carbon-free society, such as expanding the power generation business using renewable energy.

According to the announcement, Mitsubishi Corporation has set a new goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in 2030 by 50% compared to last year, with the aim of realizing a carbon-free society.

In order to achieve the goal, in addition to expanding the power generation business using renewable energy such as solar power and wind power, we will promote participation in projects related to the production and transportation of hydrogen and ammonia, which are expected to be used as next-generation energy. We are planning to make a total investment of 2 trillion yen.

On the other hand, in the power generation business, in addition to coal-fired power generation, which has already announced its withdrawal, the business of thermal power generation using LNG = liquefied natural gas will also be reduced.

Through these efforts, the company plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to virtually zero by 2050.

Among major trading companies, Mitsui Bussan has announced that it will reduce greenhouse gas emissions to virtually zero by 2050, and is considering selling coal-fired power plants, and Sumitomo Corporation is also considering selling it in the latter half of the 2040s. Has decided to withdraw from all coal-fired power generation businesses, and there are active movements toward decarbonization.
