China News Service, Xinxiang, October 18 (Reporter Han Zhangyun) The wheat evening broadcast is destined to have no hope of a bumper harvest in the coming year?

On the 17th, at the "Water Conservancy Security and Post-disaster Reconstruction Forum", the sub-forum of the Yellow River Protection and Cultural Development Forum held in Xinxiang, Henan, wheat expert Ru Zhengang "refuted rumors" on the spot.

He said that as long as the planting and management methods are correct, there is still great hope for a bumper wheat harvest in the coming year.

Affected by the continuous autumn rains in Western China, the farmland of Henan, Shanxi and other major agricultural provinces in China has accumulated water and is difficult to drain. At present, the planting of winter wheat has been delayed in some areas of the two provinces.

On the same day, focusing on issues related to post-disaster agricultural production, Ru Zhengang, a wheat expert who won the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and a professor from Henan University of Science and Technology, gave a keynote speech on "Climate Change and Wheat Production in the Huanghuai Plain".

Ru Zhengang said in his speech that abnormal changes in temperature and moisture will inevitably produce catastrophic effects. Continuous rainy weather mainly affects the sowing period and quality of wheat, which is not conducive to the formation of strong seedlings, and strain technology must be adopted.

"This year there is plenty of rain, the soil moisture is good, and it is easily affected by the warm winter climate, and farmers are accustomed to attaching importance to fertilizers. Therefore, this year's wheat planting is appropriately delayed for one solar term, that is, it is more appropriate to plant before and after the frost (October 23)." Ru Zhen Steel emphasized that late sowing wheat does not necessarily affect yield, and the reduction in yield caused by wrong field management is more serious than late sowing.

He gave an example, when the soil moisture is too high, the forced plowing of the land will cause the soil density to be too large and the air permeability will decrease, which will have a great negative impact on future crop planting.

"The reduction in yield caused by forced tillage to damage the soil is many times greater than that of late sowing wheat."

With late sowing becoming a reality, how to ensure a bumper summer grain harvest in the coming year?

Ru Zhengang developed a series of "prescriptions" such as selecting the right varieties, mastering reasonable seeding amount and seeding techniques, and scientific fertilization.

He said that this year, the soil has a large amount of continuous water, which is not conducive to the rooting of wheat roots. It is necessary to select varieties with strong root moisture tolerance and to control the sowing amount reasonably according to the different soil quality.

"But don't blindly increase the amount of sowing. After the frost, every two days postponed, the amount of sowing can be increased by 1 catty per acre, which can reduce the impact of late sowing on the growth of wheat."

Ru Zhengang also emphasized that under the condition of late sowing at the right time, it is necessary to increase the uniformity of seeds as much as possible. The effective way of sowing is narrow row spacing sowing, and plow sowing or hole sowing is used for plots that cannot be cultivated.

Due to the high soil moisture, the effect of fertilization in winter is better, and winter and spring pipes should be strengthened.

"As long as you choose the right varieties, plant the right methods, and strengthen field management, the late sowing of wheat will not have a big impact on the summer grain output in the coming year." Ru Zhengang suggested that farmers should not lose their confidence. If you encounter problems, you can ask the local agricultural technicians. Ask for advice and strive for a bumper harvest in the coming summer.

According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Henan Province, as of October 14, 7.9 million mu of wheat had been planted in Henan, accounting for 9% of the estimated area, mainly in Zhoukou, Shangqiu, Zhumadian, Luoyang, Nanyang and other places. Wheat planting was less than the same period last year. 22.58 million mu, late sowing of wheat in some areas has become a fact.
