  Camping is a form of tourism that is quietly becoming a new outlet for the economy of leisure and vacation.

During the National Day holiday, the amount of camping-related notes posted and searched on social platforms have soared.

For example, the number of notes related to the Xiaohongshu community increased by 1116% year-on-year; data released by Mafengwo showed that the search for “camping” on the platform rose 200% in the week before the National Day.

  In fact, since the epidemic eased last spring, camping has become popular.

In 2020, the number of camping-related notes published in the Xiaohongshu community increased by 271% year-on-year, and the number of views of camp-related notes increased by 170% year-on-year.

From the beginning of 2021, the daily release volume and daily search volume of camping-related notes on the platform have shown a straight upward trend. Users share scenery and experiences on the platform. They camp in Jiutoushan, Ningbo, Zhejiang, and set up tents under Mount Emei in Sichuan. Fishing and boating around...

  Lv Ning, deputy dean of the School of Tourism Science, Beijing International Studies University, talked about the reasons for the popularity of camping. On the one hand, affected by the epidemic, many people like to choose to relax in an empty space with few people; Groups are good at using social media and content platforms. "When the camping trend is popular on social platforms, they are easy to be'grasped', and at the same time they will also promote the spread of this trend through sharing and other behaviors."

He believes that exquisite camping will become a very important new form of leisure travel around the city.

  Chen Xiquan, head of the Hiking camping market operating in cities such as Xi’an and Harbin, has felt the increase in camping popularity from the booking situation this year. “Every weekend, the camps in the three cities are emptied, and the camps in Xi’an last summer. On weekends, only 70% can be booked."

  Zhu Xian, the founder of another camping brand, Da Hot Wilderness, introduced that in more than half a year since the first campsite in Sanya started operation in December 2020, Da Hot Wilderness camps have expanded to more than a dozen camps, among which are located in Daxing, Beijing. The camp covers an area of ​​more than 7,000 square meters, which is the largest camp in the hot wilderness in the country.

  According to the company's data, there are currently 21,000 campground-related companies in China. In 2020, there are 7,933 newly registered companies, a year-on-year increase of 331.6%. In the first five months of this year, there are 6,957 newly registered companies, a year-on-year increase of 286.5%.

  Lu Ning said that although domestic camping is growing rapidly, it is still at a lower level than other mature markets. In the future, China's camping industry will have more room for growth, and practitioners should be more confident.

"According to foreign data, the development of camps can account for up to 45% of rural tourism and rural economy. It is expected that camping will bring more impetus to rural revitalization."
