Emmanuel Macron said Thursday that the government would quickly "complete its response" on the fight against rising fuel prices.

Several avenues are currently being considered on the side of the executive, such as a uniform reduction in VAT or a fuel check.

If his day was particularly devoted to sport, with trips on this theme in Île-de-France, Emmanuel Macron did not forget to mention a major subject of concern for the French, Thursday: the increase in fuel . "There is an action that we are carrying out on the diplomatic and international level to try to relax the prices", promised the head of state. "There is a short-term action which is in fact to support households and the government is working on it. In the coming days, it will have to complete its response according to developments so as not to leave anyone in disarray."

While prices at the pump are at their highest for ten years, the Minister of Labor, Élisabeth Borne, confirmed on Europe 1 that the government was considering avenues to help our fellow citizens who really need their car.

What are these leads?

A first option would be to play on taxes, in particular VAT, but this would mean lowering the price of gasoline for all motorists, without making a distinction between the wealthiest and the most modest, nor between those who drive vehicles. very polluting and others.

Pompili's appeal rejected

To help the French who need it most, there is also the trail of a fuel check, a bit like the energy check system, already in the works.

This would make it possible to target beneficiaries more effectively, but again, it would not be easy to determine who would be eligible and according to what criteria.

In any case, the Head of State is pushing the ministers concerned to find solutions quickly.

The Minister for the Ecological Transition, Barbara Pompili, called on distributors at the beginning of the week to cut their margins, an appeal immediately rejected by the main stakeholders.

We will therefore have to find other solutions quickly.
