The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has indicated that as of September 25, the national average of rice crops will be "normal".

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries announced on the 12th the rice crop index with the average year as 100, and as of September 25, the national average is "100", which is expected to be "normal".

Looking at each region, due to the effects of lack of sunshine and low temperatures, mainly in western Japan,

▽ Hokuriku, Tokai, and Okinawa were "98", and

▽ Kyushu was "96",

all of which were "slightly poor".

In addition,

▽ Kinki, Chugoku, and Shikoku were "99", and

▽ Kanto and Higashiyama were "101",

all of which were "normal".

On the other hand, the production volume was high,

▽ Tohoku was "102" and "somewhat good"

▽ Hokkaido was "108" and "good".

The estimated yield of rice for the main food of this year, which was announced at the same time, is expected to be about 7 million tons, a decrease of about 220,000 tons from last year.

This is because the demand for eating out decreased due to the influence of the new coronavirus, which led to an increase in inventories produced last year and a reduction in acreage in major production areas.
