Regarding NTT's acquisition of NTT DoCoMo as a wholly owned subsidiary, a meeting of experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has compiled a report stating that NTT East and West Japan should be prohibited from unfairly giving preferential treatment to DoCoMo by providing optical fiber lines. ..

Regarding NTT's acquisition of DoCoMo as a wholly owned subsidiary last year, other telecommunications carriers such as KDDI and Softbank have submitted a written opinion to the government, saying that a fair competitive environment may be hindered.

According to a report compiled by a meeting of experts of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications on the 11th, NTT East and NTT West will dispel concerns that they may provide their optical fiber lines to DoCoMo in preference to other companies in the same industry. Should be clearly positioned by law so as not to give unreasonable preferential treatment.

In addition, NTT East, West Japan and DoCoMo officers should be prohibited from concurrently serving as officers of their respective companies.

NTT East and NTT West occupy about 70% of the nationwide share of optical fiber lines that support 5G networks.

Based on the contents of the report, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications will complete legal procedures by the end of the year and will conduct regular surveys to verify that a fair competitive environment is ensured.

Regarding this, NTT commented, "In cooperation between DoCoMo and NTT East and West, we will continue to comply with fair competition conditions."
