Dubai's economy, represented in the commercial control and consumer protection sector, witnessed a 12% decrease in consumer complaints in the emirate during the first nine months of 2021, compared to the same period in 2020.

Dubai Economy attributed this decline to its efforts to protect the rights of consumers and educate them, in addition to channels for settling complaints, as shoppers in Dubai can raise and resolve complaints via the Internet and the smart application, which enhances the shopping experience in the emirate.

The services sector accounted for 34.57% of the total complaints during the period from January to September 2021, at a time when Emirati complaints accounted for 26% of the total complaints received.

Consumer complaints

The Dubai Economy indicated, in a statement, that its commercial control and consumer protection sector received 40,526 complaints from consumers during the period from January to September 2021, compared to 46,216 complaints in the same period of 2020, while the number of observations received by the sector during the period reached The mentioned period is 1140 observations, and the number of inquiries is 838.

Complaints sectors

With regard to consumer complaints by sector, the services sector accounted for 34.57% of the total complaints during the period from January to September 2021, followed by the electronics sector, which scored 13.99%, while the ready-made garments and accessories sector accounted for 7.4% of complaints. Shipping (6.52%), cars (5.94%), furniture (5.94%), car rental (4.63%), decoration and building maintenance (3.62%), textiles and personal items (2.8%), car repair shops (2.67%), and salons (1.34%).

Active Nationalities

On the level of the most active nationalities in submitting consumer complaints, Emirati complaints constituted 26% of the total complaints received, followed by consumer complaints of Indian nationality by 14%, then Egyptian nationality by 11%, while consumer complaints of Jordanian nationality registered 6%, and of Pakistani nationality 4 %, and the rest was distributed among other nationalities.

Communication with consumers

"We communicate with consumers in all possible places, and encourage them to raise complaints," said Mohammed Ali Rashid Lootah, Executive Director of the Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Sector in Dubai Economy.

He explained that the smart channels provided by Dubai Economy not only facilitated filing and resolving consumer complaints, but also contributed to elevating the shopping experience in Dubai to a new level, as this experience will enhance confidence in Dubai's position as a center for retail trade and tourism, especially at a time when more people are arriving.
