The Federal Tax Authority called on official participants to take advantage of the facilities of the value-added tax refund mechanism paid for goods and services related to Expo 2020 Dubai, noting that it provides a special telephone service to facilitate procedures and give priority to processing registration requests received from international participants.

The Director-General of the authority, Khaled Al-Bustani, said that the service facilitates and speeds up the procedures for registering participants in the exhibition for value added tax, by making phone calls, through which the employees of the registration department at the authority explain the requirements in detail to the participants to fill out the electronic application through the integrated platform for the services of "Expo 2020 Dubai".

Al-Bustani added that the Federal Tax Authority had prepared during the last period, in cooperation with the competent authorities, to ensure the smooth implementation of the procedures for refunding the value-added tax paid on goods and services related to Expo 2020 Dubai.

He stressed that there is daily direct communication between the authority and the management of international participants in the office of the integrated platform for the services of "Expo" to coordinate joint efforts, and prompt processing of requests from official participants, whether with regard to requests from participating countries to register for value added tax, or processing refund requests, as well as responding to inquiries Countries participating in the international event.

Al-Bustani stated that the authority has already completed registration processes for many of the participating countries, which have applied for tax registration, while it is processing the requests it receives through its electronic tax refund system for goods and services related to “Expo”, and special refund requests received by the authority are processed through the Office of The integrated platform for receiving and reviewing requests for refunds of non-registered participants for VAT.

5 categories that can get tax refund

The Federal Tax Authority, earlier, issued a guide for the official participants in the Expo 2020 Dubai, explaining the five categories for which the tax paid can be refunded, as the first category is the value-added tax paid by the official participant on goods and services directly related to The establishment, installation, modification, decoration works and dismantling of its exhibition space, while the second category is the tax paid by the official participant on goods and services directly related to the work and activities of organizing and operating the spaces of the official participants, and any events at the Expo site.

As for the third category, it is represented in the tax paid by the participant on goods and services related to the actual organizing work of the official participant, provided that the value of each good or service for which the official participant’s office is requesting a refund of the tax paid is not less than 200 dirhams, while the fourth category represents the tax paid. By the participant and related to the operations, services and activities provided for the purpose of participating in the “Expo”, whether within the boundaries of the site or outside, while the fifth category is the tax paid on the import of goods intended for personal use by the commissioner-general of the department of the official participant, the department team and the beneficiaries.
