Hardware upgrades, points withdrawal... Shanghai colleges and universities have made more efforts to improve the garbage classification score

In the corner of the teaching south building of Tongji University, red, blue, and black boxes are different in size.

Throwing a plastic bottle requires 4 steps: discard the residue in the bottle, unscrew the bottle cap and put it into the small basket on the side of the box, tear off the bottle paper to the dry trash can, and put the bottle into the recyclable box.

On the campus roads of Fudan University, smart IoT sanitation bins with solar panels have initially established the "Internet of Things" for campus garbage classification.

On the small screen of the cabinet, data such as the number of times of delivery and the number of times of clearing the bucket are displayed. When the bucket is full, the location information is sent directly to the mobile phone of the sanitation personnel.

Shanghai's latest domestic waste classification assessment data shows that from January to August 2021, the city's colleges and universities with a comprehensive average score of 90 or more will reach 100%. Compared with 2019, the score has risen sharply.

Behind the increase in points is Shanghai universities' efforts in waste sorting measures.

Now, every Shanghai university freshman will see the accompanying "garbage sorting" promotional materials when opening the admission notice.

At Shanghai Jianqiao University, starting from 2020, garbage classification will be included in the freshman entrance education and the "Situation and Policy" curriculum system. The first lecture of the course is garbage classification.

Garbage sorting has become a compulsory course for students in colleges and universities.

At present, Shanghai universities have incorporated the knowledge of household waste classification into the freshman enrollment education system and the regular publicity and education system.

Relying on its disciplinary advantages, the School of Environmental Science and Engineering of Tongji University uses innovative practices to provide suggestions for waste classification.

Teachers and students conduct research on typical problems and related causes of garbage classification in the teaching south and north buildings and libraries, transform the existing garbage classification system, and explore more reasonable and efficient innovative models of garbage classification.

After the renovation, there are two black boxes for recycling dry garbage in the garbage disposal area of the teaching building, and two blue boxes for recycling cans and beverage bottles respectively. There is no wet garbage bin.

It is worth mentioning that a white small basket is hung outside the blue box, dedicated to the recycling of beverage bottle caps.

The plan was also shortlisted for the National Youth Zero Carbon Science and Technology Exhibition.

In the library, recyclable boxes are subdivided into special paper and plastic bottles and cans.

This is to take into account that the remaining beverages in the bottles and cans may contaminate the paper.

In the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, the garbage room is also known as the "Old Material Courtyard".

The four-color trash cans in the courtyard are neatly arranged, various operators are famous, the windowsills are luxuriant, there is no smell in the air, the light on the ground can reflect people, and the whole "other courtyard" is integrated with the surrounding scenery. , The recycled tires are painted in different colors and inlaid on the walls of surrounding buildings, complementing the arc shape of the leisure corridor, and becoming an online celebrity check-in point for teachers and students to take pictures.

During the summer vacation of 2021, more than half of the universities in Shanghai upgraded their waste sorting hardware facilities.

Fudan University has added smart waste bins and hypochlorous acid disinfection and deodorization equipment; Shanghai Jiao Tong University built a four-class waste bin room; East China University of Political Science and Law installed wet waste reduction treatment devices, waste compressors, rain and sewage diversion facilities and other facilities.

In terms of software, in the fall semester of 2021, the "Shanghai School Domestic Waste Classification Effective Supervision Platform" was officially launched.

The platform integrates the actual data of the domestic waste classification of Shanghai colleges and universities, and reflects the monthly third-party evaluation of waste classification in each college in real time, the comprehensive evaluation results every quarter and half a year, and the data of the four types of waste generated by colleges and universities.

Both supervision and incentives are being implemented, and garbage classification is changing from "new fashion" to "good habit".

At Tongji University, the "Love Sorting and Love Recycling" garbage sorting service will be fully introduced from July 2019.

A total of 33 smart recycling devices have been installed in the teaching and living areas of the school. This has inspired teachers and students to put recyclables into smart recycling machines.

Data shows that Tongji University has completed more than 825 tons of recycling in 2020, realizing waste reduction and recycling from the source, greatly reducing the pressure of later waste transportation.

Last year, Tongji teachers and students settled more than 820,000 yuan through points credited to the account and WeChat withdrawal.
