Vodafone Spain wants to close all its stores in Spain, 34 of its own facilities that would disappear as part of the ERE that the telecommunications operator is currently going through.

The company's Human Resources team has finalized in a meeting with the workers' representatives its plan to carry out the workforce adjustment that was announced two weeks ago.

The objective is to drastically reduce the physical presence of the company in the geography of the country, to enhance remote customer service and the digitization of its activities.

According to union sources present in the negotiations, the company intends that practically half of the impact of the ERE is covered by the commercial team of those stores,

237 employees of Vodafone Spain

. The initial proposal for the employment regulation file estimated the cut at 515 employees, but Vodafone Spain has softened the data to 509 people, as stated in the first meeting of the negotiating table, held this Tuesday.

Some unions, such as the UGT, have criticized the decision to end its own stores, and have recalled that the staff workers on whom this ERE seems to focus "made the most difficult months of the pandemic, those in which they had to attend to the population, in person, to try to cover the communication needs that made it possible for the economic activity to continue (...)

They were and are essential workers

, not the pagans of the lack of success of bad managers ".

Vodafone Spain currently has

34 of its own stores

, practically half concentrated in four cities: there are 6 in Madrid.

4 in Barcelona, 2 in Seville and 2 in Valencia.

The rest of the establishments where only Vodafone products and services can be found are distribution stores, commissioned by the company.

In addition, the representatives of the company have offered 33 days per year worked with a limit of 24 monthly payments and early retirement from 56 years.

The procedure of Vodafone Spain, which would end the negotiation table on October 27, "is justified for

economic, productive and organizational reasons"

, as reported by Vodafone Spain, and "is encouraged by the market trend in the sector of the telecommunications and the need to improve its operational performance by accelerating its digital transformation strategy ".

Vodafone Spain launched its latest ERE in 2019, also for "economic, productive and organizational reasons."

The operator has already accumulated eight employment regulation files since 2000.
