The UAE, represented by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Maritime Transport Agency, affiliated to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development in Georgia, providing for mutual recognition of maritime education and training, and seafarers’ competency certificates issued by the competent authorities in the two countries, in accordance with the International Agreement on Training Standards and the issuance of Certificates and monitoring of seafarers, as part of the two countries’ joint efforts to ensure the security and safety of the maritime sector.

According to the memorandum signed by the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the UAE, Suhail Al Mazrouei, and the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Tamara Iosiliani, the two parties recognize educational certificates, training courses, certificates of competence in the maritime sector, and certificates of medical fitness for seafarers issued by the government of the other side, As well as for workers on board ships flying the flag of the other party, in accordance with the provisions of the International Convention on Standards for Training, Certification and Control of Seafarers (STCW).

Al Mazrouei said that the UAE is a leading maritime center in the world, ranking fifth in the world, among the most important international maritime centers, as the maritime sector in the country is characterized by attracting a group of talents, professionals and experts who have qualitative expertise in various related fields. The state pays great attention to maritime education and training, and the certificates issued by the competent authorities in the state are based on the highest international standards, and are recognized by the major international bodies and organizations concerned.

Al Mazrouei stressed that the UAE is keen to enhance integration with the various authorities and parties concerned with the maritime industry, inside and outside the country, to enhance the competitiveness of the maritime sector, which contributes about 91 billion dirhams annually to the domestic product, noting that the memorandum signed with Georgia would contribute to ensuring The efficiency of operational processes, and the safety of maritime transport operations locally, regionally and globally.

For her part, Iosiliani said: “At the Maritime Transport Agency, affiliated with the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, we are keen to strengthen bilateral relations between Georgia and the leading countries in the maritime sector, including the United Arab Emirates, which is characterized by its strategic location and its link to global maritime trade networks, in addition to Its advanced infrastructure, as well as its distinguished maritime education and training programs, which are recognized by international organizations.”
