The average price of electricity in the wholesale market (pool) for this Monday stood at 174.68 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), which represents a rise of 8.8% compared to the price set for the previous day and that marks its
third highest price since records exist.
According to data from the Iberian Electricity Market Operator (OMIE), the
maximum price will be recorded today between 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.,
when it will be 195.26 euros / MWh, while the minimum will be 138.6 euros / MWh between 4:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.
With this rise, which
breaks the downward trend
after two consecutive days of decline, the price of electricity is 7% below its historical maximum but multiplies by more than four the price paid just a year ago .
The price for this Monday will be the third highest in the historical series, only behind the 188.18 euros / MWh on August 16 and the 175.87 euros / MWh registered on the 22nd of this month.
With this new rise, the average price of electricity so far in September is already above 152 euros / MWh, almost
44% more expensive
than the almost 106 euros / MWh with which August closed, the most expensive ever to date.
