Emirates Global Aluminium, in cooperation with Mubadala Investment Company and Dubal Holding, announced the completion of the construction of the most efficient power plant in the UAE, which will significantly contribute to improving the environmental performance of EGA in Jebel Ali.

A statement issued yesterday said that the new plant was built according to the latest technologies at a cost of one billion dirhams, using the H-Class gas turbine from Siemens Energy, the first of its kind in the UAE and in the aluminum industry worldwide. It has a generating capacity of about 600 megawatts.

The new plant improves the efficiency of EGA's power generation, which saves natural resources and reduces costs and emissions that are harmful to the environment.

Five turbines that are older and less efficient than the current high-end model used by EGA have all been suspended, for emergency use only.

The construction of the new station took about 12.8 million man-hours, the equivalent of working for one person for more than 6,000 years.

The workforce reached 3,778 workers at its peak during November of last year, and the project was completed with a global safety record and without injuries that lead to leave from work.
