The General Authority of Civil Aviation revealed that the number of international airlines and shipping companies operating in the country increased by 147% during 2021 compared to 2020.

The authority explained to "Emirates Today" that the number of airlines and shipping companies that resumed their activities and flights from the country this year amounted to 284 companies, compared to 115 companies at the end of last year, an increase of 147 percent.

"Civil Aviation" stated that the number of registered and operating airlines in the country currently reached 23 commercial companies and five private airlines.

The authority attributed the companies’ resumption of their activities from the UAE to Expo 2020 Dubai, and the investment opportunities it offers, the expected growth of the aviation sector, and safe investment opportunities in the sector, as well as the strength of the local economy, which led to the entry of airlines into a phase Recovering from the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It indicated that it had issued various laws and protocols to organize and facilitate aviation operations in the country, in light of the current circumstances and challenges, which helped support, stimulate and grow the aviation sector during the last period despite the challenges.
