China News Service, Shijiazhuang, September 24 (Wang Tian translated by Chen Lebin) "I always felt that sugarcane is only produced in the south, but I did not expect that fresh sugar cane can be eaten in the north." On the morning of the 24th, in Linzhang County, Handan City, Hebei Province. In a sugarcane field in Duchengying Village, Li Dazheng, a Handan citizen who came to pick fresh food, said.

During the harvest season, more than a dozen workers in the sugarcane field were busy removing leaves, bundling, and loading the thick sugarcane.

Gao Jinjian, a planter of this sugarcane field and a "post-90s" young man, said that he is a villager in Duchengying Village. He traveled to Guangxi five years ago and saw the sugarcane in the area, which gave birth to the idea of introducing it to the north.

After continuous trial planting and improvement, a mature planting and management model was successfully explored, and the nearby villagers were led to expand the planting scale together and achieved good economic benefits.

“This year’s planting area is 100 acres, with two varieties of purple and yellow peels. Each acre can harvest 25,000 kilograms of sugarcane. Eighty percent will be purchased by consignees, and the remaining part will be picked on site or retailed by early adopters.” Gao Jinjian said. Years later, with the maturity of planting technology, the income per mu of sugarcane is now about 15,000 yuan.

According to Gao Jinjian, the northern sugarcane needs to be planted in March each year and harvested around October. Planting and daily management mainly rely on human labor, and the labor force left behind at home can participate.

"Sugar cane is slightly different from the corn and wheat that are often grown here. The growth season is slightly different. After the busy farming, I come here to help. The income can increase by more than 5,000 yuan a year, which is quite content." said Li Lanqin, a villager who is helping to harvest sugar cane.

Gao Jinjian said that he intends to further expand the scale of planting next year, and increase the added value of products through e-commerce and brand building, and drive more local villagers to get rich together.

It is reported that in recent years, Linzhang County has made great efforts to optimize the planting structure, guide farmers to develop characteristic planting, and increase the added value of agriculture.

Up to now, the county has developed more than 20 kinds of characteristic plantings such as sugar cane, leeks, peppers, yams, and sweet potatoes, which have played an important role in driving farmers' income and promoting rural revitalization.
