The Central Bank hosts the “Future of the Financial System” conference during Expo 2020

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates, the Central Bank announced the hosting of the “Future of the Financial System” conference, as part of the activities accompanying Expo 2020 and in line with its slogan “Connect” Minds and Creating the Future”, which will take place on October 13-14, 2021.

The conference aims to exchange experiences and knowledge about the challenges and opportunities facing the financial sector, as it will shed light on the core issues related to this sector.

The conference includes dialogue sessions that discuss several topics, including the impact of digital transformation, the green financial system, and ways of cooperation between central banks regarding digital currencies and payments, and Islamic finance.

The conference will be attended by a group of central bank governors, representatives of government institutions and leaders of the financial sector from different countries of the world, in addition to a group of heads of financial and technological institutions.

The list of speakers from the UAE includes His Excellency Khalid Muhammad Balama, Governor of the Central Bank of the Emirates, His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy, His Excellency Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Global Market, and His Excellency Abdulaziz Abdullah Al Ghurair, Chairman of the Board of Directors. Emirates Banks Federation and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mashreq Bank, His Excellency Abdullah bin Bayh, Chairman of the Emirates Council for Sharia Fatwas, His Excellency Younis Al Khouri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance, and Her Excellency Eng. Aisha Al Abdouli, Assistant Undersecretary for the Climate Change, Environment and Green Development Sector at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment. As for the speakers from outside the UAE, the list includes Dr. Fahd bin Ibrahim Al-Shathri, Deputy Governor for Supervision at the Central Bank of Saudi Arabia, Mr. Benoit Coeur, Head of the Innovation Center for the Bank for International Settlements, and Mr. Zhang Shan Mu, Director General of the Digital Currency Research Institute of the People’s Bank of China, to Along with other leading figures in the sector.

Commenting on the launch of the conference, His Excellency Khalid Mohammed Balama, Governor of the Central Bank of the UAE, said: “As the UAE celebrates its fiftieth year, we look forward to the next fifty years of growth and prosperity. The conference on the future of the financial system comes at the right time to discuss the topics that shape the future of the financial system.
