Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd., an automobile manufacturer headquartered in Osaka, announced that it will cut production by about 20,000 units next month, saying that it is difficult to procure parts from Southeast Asia due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection.

Daihatsu has been forced to reduce production due to a shortage of parts since last month, and the total production reduction will be about 70,000 units.

Daihatsu will set a day to suspend operations at five plants next month, saying that it is still difficult to procure parts from Vietnam and Malaysia due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection in Southeast Asia.



Specifically, the Shiga No. 2 Factory in Ryuo Town, Shiga Prefecture has 9 days, and the Head Office Factory in Ikeda City, Osaka has 5 days, etc., and operations will be suspended for a total of 21 days.



This is expected to result in an additional production cut of 20,000 units.

Daihatsu commented, "We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers. We will continue to consider alternative production and strive to recover as soon as possible."
