• Economy Extension of ERTE: These are the 45 'ultra-protected' activities until September

  • Airlines Transoceanic flights do not take off: only two out of 10 passengers have recovered

Iberia

has conveyed to the unions its intention to begin negotiating a

temporary employment regulation file (ERTE)

for organizational and production reasons, given the possibility that the talks between the Government and social agents do not result in an extension of the ERTE of force majeure for the air sector.

As reported by the airline on Monday, the uncertainty about this extension and its conditions, as well as the slowdown in the recovery of trips, have motivated its decision to

start negotiations with its unions

to apply an ERTE for organizational and productive reasons.

The company has stressed that this instrument is necessary to be able to continue adjusting its resources to real capacity and to protect employment.

The airline has reported that it continues at capacity levels between

30% and 35% lower than 2019, the

year before the pandemic, mainly due to restrictions on tourism with the United States, Latin America, Japan and China.

"Due to the slow recovery of both long-haul and connecting flights as well as business trips and the bans, restrictions and quarantines in force in many countries to which Iberia flies, the airline considers it essential that the extension of the ERTE force majeure that the Government and social agents are negotiating include the airline sector to safeguard the employment of workers in the sector, "he defends.

In any case, and given its need to continue applying adjustment measures, the company has already communicated to the unions its intention to negotiate an ERTE for organizational and production reasons.

The airline has specified that the talks on this ERTE would begin "without prejudice to the decisions that Iberia may adopt with respect to force majeure ERTEs", once the result of the social dialogue negotiation is known.

Iberia defends that

force majeure ERTEs

have been a fundamental tool to safeguard employment in

the worst aviation crisis

and are those that are currently applied to the entire tourism sector in Spain and, at present, those that are also being applied in the company.
