China News Service, Beijing, September 19 (Reporter Yan Xiaohong) China National Nuclear Corporation disclosed that on the 19th, the first tank of concrete was poured on the base slab of the conventional island steam turbine generator plant of the Tianwan Nuclear Power Unit 7 of China National Nuclear Corporation, one month ahead of schedule. The formal start of construction of the conventional island marked the beginning of the construction of Unit 7 in a comprehensive manner.

Units 7 and 8 of Tianwan Nuclear Power Station and Units 3 and 4 of Xudabao Nuclear Power Station are important projects in the package of cooperation agreements in the nuclear energy field witnessed by the heads of state of China and Russia in June 2018.

At present, the construction of Tianwan Nuclear Power’s No. 7 nuclear island is progressing smoothly. The raft foundation construction of each main plant is basically completed, and the construction of the superstructure is in progress. The localization rate of conventional island equipment is expected to reach 99.6%.

Tianwan Nuclear Power has made it clear that Units 7 and 8 will become a global "exquisite project" and "benchmarking project", and strive to build the Tianwan Nuclear Power Base into a world-class nuclear energy multi-reactor comprehensive utilization industrial cluster and multi-energy complementary zero-carbon Demonstration energy base, in order to achieve carbon peaks, carbon neutrality, and contribute to the deepening of the comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation between China and Russia in the new era.

It is understood that after Tianwan Nuclear Power Units 7 and 8 are completed and put into operation, the total installed capacity will exceed 9 million kilowatts, which can provide more than 70 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity each year, which is equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 15.34 million tons per year, which will strongly promote the industry in Jiangsu Province. Structural and energy structure adjustments will support the East China Power Grid and regional energy supply security.
