He added, in statements on the sidelines of a press conference held in Dubai yesterday, in the presence of the Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, to announce the details of the launch of the seventh session of the World Green Economy Summit, that the summit will focus on the challenges of green finance, innovation, and smart technology in the sustainability sectors. .

In detail, the Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, said that the current session of the World Green Economy Summit coincides with the activities of Expo 2020 Dubai, as well as the celebration of the golden jubilee of the UAE, and its preparation for the next five decades, to ensure a better future for current and future generations.

He added in a press conference held in Dubai yesterday, to announce the details of the launch of the seventh session of the World Green Economy Summit, that what reinforces the importance of the current session is the willingness of the international community to evaluate its efforts in facing the challenge of climate change, during the new session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention. on climate (COP26), to be held in the coming weeks in the United Kingdom, expressing his hope that the summit will produce recommendations, models and innovative solutions that further support and stimulate the international movement to shift towards a green economy to protect our environment and ensure its sustainability.

He stressed that the ministry, in cooperation with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and the World Green Economy Organization, will work to stimulate innovative solutions to the most important challenges posed by climate change, by launching the "Clymathon" challenge within the summit's activities, to motivate entrepreneurs and innovators to provide innovative solutions to develop clean technology. and solving sustainability challenges in three areas: agribusiness, air pollution, and mobility.

In turn, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and Chairman of the World Green Economy Summit, revealed new plans to raise the mix of green energy production in Dubai to reach 1,800 MW during the first quarter of next year, compared to 1,300 MW currently.

He stressed that Dubai was able to achieve rates that exceed the targeted percentages of green energy from the total energy production in Dubai, to reach currently 10% of the energy ratios instead of the 7% targeted during the current period.

He pointed out that during the summit, for the first time, the "Clymathon 2021" challenge will be organized in person during the summit, and virtually via a common platform in a number of global cities, with the aim of transforming climate-related challenges into promising opportunities, by working closely with innovators.

In the same context, the Vice-President of the World Green Economy Organization, Engineer Walid Salman, said that the "Covid-19" pandemic focused heavily on the importance of green energy and the transition towards sustainability, and also re-focused attention at greater rates to the need to reduce emissions.
