The last two fugitives, Ayham Kamamji and Munadel Infeiat, both members of the Islamic Jihad, were captured in Jenin, an area of the West Bank under Palestinian security control.

The operation resulted in a large deployment of Israeli military forces which, according to a spokesperson, were thrown by explosives and stones.

The two unarmed men surrendered without resistance after troops surrounded the building they were inside.

Originally from Kafr Dan, near Jenin, Ayman Kamamji was arrested in 2006 and sentenced to life imprisonment for the kidnapping and murder of Eliahou Asheri, a young Israeli settler.

Munadel Infeiat was awaiting his conviction after having been imprisoned in the past for his activities within the Islamic Jihad.

Malfunctions

On September 6, on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, six Palestinian inmates jailed for anti-Israel violence fled from Gilboa high-security prison in northern Israel through a tunnel. under a sink and leading to a hole in the ground outside the penitentiary.

Four of these fugitives had been captured in the days following the "Great Escape" from the high security penitentiary in Galilee.

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett praised what he described as efficient and rapid research.

An independent commission of inquiry has been appointed to find those responsible for the shortcomings of the Israeli prison administration revealed by the media.

In the meantime, specialized teams are looking for other tunnels in all the prisons in Israel.
