The founder and chairman of the Al Habtoor Group, Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor, has warned people in the UAE and abroad against a website that impersonates the Emirati daily Al Ittihad, which is published in the Arabic language.
The group confirmed in a statement today, that there are fraudsters seeking to deceive people to invest in fake shares in the group, claiming that they are offered for trading.
According to the group, the fake newspaper (www.alittihadae.com) published false news on the eighth of this September about a young man who became a millionaire after investing in a non-existent company belonging to the Al Habtoor Group.
Al Habtoor was alerted to the matter through the calls his office received from people inquiring about the authenticity of this news, noting that people had contacted them from a neighboring country inviting them to invest in the new project.
Al Habtoor said: “I was deeply shocked and disappointed to learn of this fraudulent attempt to deceive people and embezzle their hard-earned money. I would like to thank all those who contacted my office and me directly, and I am sure there are many people who have been scammed and whom we did not know.”
He added, "I would like to warn all the people contacted by these scammers not to believe their words, as such news, which is of great importance to our company, is officially announced by our offices through the appropriate channels, and I appeal to people not to fall into the nets of fraudsters and counterfeiters." The website also has an Instagram account (@alitthadae80) with more than 19,000 followers.
Al Habtoor stated, "The legal team in the group filed a complaint against that website, and forwarded all the information to the Dubai Police to help put an end to this fraud. We also informed Al Ittihad newspaper in Abu Dhabi because its good reputation is at stake."
