It was confirmed as a result of SBS coverage that the employment center of the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the local government job center stole personal information of citizens to inflate job applications and job placement performance.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor investigated cases of job application or employment processing using the personal information of the deceased for three months from November 2018.
During the three-year period under which the survey was conducted, 12,043 job search applications using the personal information of the deceased and 974 cases in which the deceased registered employment were found.
There were 1,549 job counselors who recorded deaths, which is 12% of counselors registered on Worknet.
It was found that counselors made false applications with the personal information of the elderly registered for public work jobs, and continued to use them to inflate the performance even after the elderly people died.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor, out of 1,500 counselors under investigation, 241 asked the police to investigate, and 324 took precautions and warnings.
The results of the investigation were reported face-to-face to the Minister of Employment and Labor in April 2019, but the results of the investigation were kept secret and not disclosed so far.
